Explore the multifaceted landscape of the German-Belgian border region between Monschau and Sourbrodt on this tour. Whether spruce forests, the idyllic Rur valley or the High Fens, which are unique in Europe, there is plenty of scenery to discover.

The tour starts at the former Monschau railroad station, which is located outside the historic town center. The tour takes us along the Vennbahn to Sourbrodt. Where trains carrying coal and steel once ran, cyclists can now explore the unique low mountain range landscape of the Eifel/Ardennes in comfort and with few inclines. On our way, we pass the former smugglers' village of Mützenich and after just a few kilometers we reach the Reichenstein viaduct, which offers a wonderful view of the surrounding area and provides a touch of adventure. From Kalterherberg, we leave Germany and the tour enters Belgian territory.

The unique heath landscape announces the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park. This fascinating area of high moorland acts as a gigantic water reservoir, ensuring that there are numerous streams and rivers to cross. We then leave the Vennbahn behind the excellently preserved station building in Sourbrodt.

A short time later, the RurUfer cycle path leads us back towards Monschau. The babbling Rur accompanies us on our way past Reichenstein Monastery and Norbertus Chapel until we finally reach the center of the former cloth-making town of Monschau with its magnificently preserved half-timbered idyll. Here we end the day with a leisurely stroll through the old town or in one of the cozy cafés before heading back to the starting point.
